• Challenge categories: Your solution must fall into one or more of the three categories - solar software, solar finance, solar design, or a solar consumer product. You may work on the challenges presented or come up with your own.

  • Participation: All participants must be 18 years and over to participate. When on site, participants need to abide by any requests of CSIRO staff during the Solar Hackathon including Health & Safety and security.

  • New code: In the spirit of coming up with better and more practical solutions, we have included the challenges in your Hackathon Info Pack. You can form your teams beforehand, however, no coding can be done until the official start of the Hackathon at 8am on Saturday, 9 April.

  • Code review: Winning teams are subject to code review to ensure their code was built during the Hackathon. Team members have the obligation to obtain rights to use any third party materials

  • Uploading submission: All teams must upload their submission onto DevPost by 6pm on Saturday 9 April. Any submissions uploaded after 6pm will not be considered.

  • Presentation: All teams must deliver a three minute pitch with two minutes of Q & A to the judging panel. The presentation can be a mock-up / demo, wireframe, or website. Please be prepared to use your own computer for the presentation.

  • Intellectual property: CSIRO and Powerhouse do not claim any ownership of the IP teams submitted during the Solar Hackathon, nor can we provide any protection of IP or sensitive material. You own what you produce at the CSIRO Solar Hackathon. We highly recommend you discuss the ownership of IP and division of prizes with your team members before the Hackathon begins.

  • Confidentiality: We advise teams not to share anything confidential or valuable in their idea submission on DevPost as this information will be publicly shared with the audience, judges and on DevPost.

  • Judging: The decision for the winners by the judging panel is final.

  • Publicity: Except where prohibited, by participating in the CSIRO Solar Hackathon, participants consent to the use of his/her name, photo, video and/or likeness, biographical information, entry and statements attributed to participation for all advertising and promotional purposes, including without limitation, inclusion in CSIRO and Powerhouse newsletters, CSIRO and Powerhouse digital platforms including website and media. The winners list will be publicised and not limited to CSIRO media channels and website.

    IN NO EVENT WILL CSIRO BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOSS OF USE, DATA, BUSINESS OR PROFITS) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE HACKATHON, WHETHER SUCH LIABILITY ARISES FROM ANY CLAIM BASED UPON CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE, AND WHETHER OR NOT SPONSORS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH LOSS OR DAMAGE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
